I loved these ones, the designer took Adrien Brody and the model of Prada and turned them into graphical stylish, Prada wearing giff images. Think they are pretty much converts the aesthetic of fashion and still contains a humor in itself.

On my previous post i put a photograph of a model with the red dress. This photograph also belongs to that photographer. I do find them very charming and intriguing because of the blur effect. Blur turns the photograph into a subtle representation but the way the model dress still speaks loud enough.

It's the brand new identity for the 'The Danish String Quartet'. It's a bit a direct connection to put a scroll, a bow and a string and to combine it with the number 4 but whatever it does look good. At first glance the viewer does not get the impression of the connection that easily. After a detailed look you get to see the relation.

Suited Company is a company that creates new concepts for old buildings and giving them new meanings. Find it pretty original and a fun thing to do and even to look at.

This is the new monthly cover of V magazine. Scarlett Johansson represented the shower scene from the very dear Hitchcock's Psycho. This is absolutely fantastic. I haven't seen a cover like this fun and simply alive in a long period of time. If i would seen it on a newsstand i would definitely jump right on it!!

This Teague headphones make use of buckminster's fully tensegrity structure to create flexible headphones. Tensegrity balances tension and compression to give these elements strength and flexibility. The design is incredible. This is probably the proof of that headphones can be elegant and treasure like.

cazyap process so far _ birth & life

In first weeks, everyone in the class came up with fictional names for fictional companies. Chosen ones were; Cazyap (jazz bar), Giderayak (travel agency) and Ali Cengiz (game design company). I went with cazyap because i do have an interest in jazz music and that i thought there were little goods that i could design besides the typeface and the logo such as glasses, menu, shot bars, cds.. At the very beginning i really had fun with it by trying different typefaces that i saw on internet. I worked by hand, made some sketches on what may be the logo. I didn't put jazz instrument metaphors in logotypes but the instruments, the smoke, the cool air of the music were always in my mind. ( Turned out that direct connections were useless. Indeed. ) Initial trials, here they are;

The one at the top, i found this typeface on behance. I liked it a lot actually since its very elegant and old chic. And at the bottom one i drew randomly while sitting on my couch.

At first i wrote cazyap with very edged letters that i randomly drew with my ruler.

I made this sketch, i randomly put some triangles into the letters and drew a possible logo. But the outcome was not good at all.

For possible logo choices, i thought of a heart which is combined with a trumpet. I wanted to combine the soul of jazz with its own basic instruments.

After week one, i went back to the metaphorical roots and not surprisingly i put some saxophones, trumpet metaphors next to logotype. I directly put some stripes as i thought them to represent rythm of jazz music. Then Elif Ayiter forced me to realise that referring to direct connections were simply stupid. Here's my stupidity examples;

I decided to stay away from all the metaphors but clearly not from stripes (don't know why). This time i also inspired from trumpet tubes. I tried to make connections between words, their shapes, tried to make them look like a unity.

This is the one that Elif Ayiter told me to go on with. I have to admit, i didn't expect that she'd choose this one. I personally liked very much number 1 and number 4. But she said that the round relation and the edged relation of words are a good contrast and thanks to the way i grouped the words and the typeface i chose, the relation strikes out pretty quickly. So i'll make some variations of this one in next couple of days.

After Elif Ayiter picked this one, i started to work on this one particularly. I made several variations but i sticked with the grouping of c+a, z+y and a+p. There you go the last variations of cazyap;

Creating association _ No#2

Here i am again forcing myself going out of the box, even not to think about the box. You know the process, here it goes..

These are 3 images i chose. First image brings directly to mind explosion, burnout and the end. I thought of this image as representing the end of the world. Then it came to my mind that if world would come to an end, people would need somewhere to live in, to maintain their lives with their loved ones. So when i saw the second image i just immediately referred it to the shelter that mankind would live in for thousands of years. There wouldn't be any distinction between races or languages. People who are in the same business would gather together and share their experience and build new stuff, make innovations. The old world had so much grief, pain and agony. So in the new one people wanted to live much more happily and stress free. So scientists built a heart from glass that fit exactly into the human body which works just the same way as a normal heart but thanks to this heart humans won't feel any pain, won't experience any stress or sadness in their lives. This heart is the biggest discovery of the new world. This heart is the beginning of wonderful things such as big innovations, new fields of profession, new and fresh point of views.. Product's name would be 'Keşf-i Kalp'.

Here are some sketches of what the symbol might be;

                                                                              No 2

Somewhere in the world, in an unknown town, at unknown time ducks started to attack people and harm them. Thousands of ducks were pretty happy of the outcome, now they could walk and swim anywhere, could do whatever they wanted. They were completely free because humans were too afraid to prevent all this from happening, they couldn't even make a move. When the duck attacks began at first place, humans gathered and decided that cats would be the best choice to deal with ducks. Since cats are some sort of predators humans were almost sure that cats could handle these ducks and sent them away so they could go back to their calm, happy life. At first cats did what they're told to do but some time later they got lazy and hooked on gambling. They were playing cards all day all night in their houses. Day by day the number of ducks began to increase in large proportions, humans started to interfere the situation. They built a car exclusively to warn cats and to put them in action. The car would go around cats' houses and then play a horrifying song which make cats go crazy so they eventually have to leave their houses and get back on their jobs. Our product's name is Meowarning.

We all will prepare portfolios to get a job, to get in a college.. I think this is one of the most innovative way to prepare one. This is bold and original, just the way we like it.

This is again a personal portfolio preparation. I absolutely fell in love with this one. This is so subtle but at the same time extravagant. The initials A and V come together in a very modest way but still the viewer gets it right away. I guess good design is probably close to something like this.

I like this one a lot. This photograph was taken by a Spanish duo for a hair creative studio. I have no idea about the photographic technic, lightening or whatsoever but the dress' color and the background creates perfect contrast and the lightening on the dress and the back gives a sense of depth to the photograph. I find this very sensitive.

This is a concept packaging for fruit wine inspired by CUBEN project. Geometric shape combining with color is most of the time just beautiful. This time, no exception. Cubic forms and the sharp edged typeface are the perfect match. Of course the length and thinness of the bottle looks extremely refined and elegant. I also have to mention the bottom part. Little mountain at the bottom is exactly the finishing touch to a great design.

These are paintings of Olivier Girault. I discovered him last week, his paintings strangely give me a sense of warmth. In his works there is a feeling of solitude and silence but at the same time they convey a peaceful message to the viewer. When i look at these, they don't transfer any negative quotations. The painter chooses to depict feelings and human conditions in a very minimal and quiet way.

I do have a deep love affair with cold weather and snow so it's no surprise for me to put this on my blog. The whole design is hand made by Zim and Zou. This is the poster for a snowboard / ski contest. Instead of simply putting a snowboarder's photograph or a mountain, they chose to prepare all the material by hand like they always do. I guess trees and iglo are made out of paper and the penguin is made out of wood, not sure at all. I think the outcome of all this work is super sweet.

This photograph was taken ben Tom Ryaboi. He's a Canadian photographer who hangs around at the very top of buildings. He takes this sort of courageous, bold photographs which transfer depth and pure excitement. Of course this is touched but still his photographs are stunning to me.

I don't know who took this photograph, seeing De Niro and Scorsese as young buddies sitting next to each other is beyond enough for me to love it.
